THE EXPEDITION OF A LIFETIME
If you want to challenge yourself in an extremely hard and beautiful environment, this trek is made for you!
The Páramo de Sol is one of the highest points of Antioquia, with a maximal altitude around 4,000 meters above sea level. This paramo is rich in water and is the natural home of unique species as bears. There is a great variety of climates, which gives space to the existence of diverse plants and animals, some of them unique to the area.
This great trek will be divided into 3 days, we will start entering the Proaves reserve where we can see 12 different species of hummingbirds, some of them endemic. Our main objective will be to reach the Alto de Campanas, the maximum height of the moor with 4,000 meters above sea level. There, we can visit the lagoon and the polylepis forest and observe a large number of “frailejones” characteristic of this ecosystem.
We offer all the professional equipment to make this expedition safe, minimizing the impact to the ecosystem.
The fitness level required for this hike is 5 out of 5. You need to be an experienced hiker in good physical shape, and also have a strong mental to support the altitude and low temperatures at night.

We will pick you up at your hotel, accommodation or preferred location at 1:00 p.m.
We will drive around 5 hours to the municipality of Urrao and spend our first night in an accommodation in the town.
This first night will also help to acclimatize to the high altitude.

We will wake up a t 4:00 a.m. and start to hike at 5:00 a.m.
The main objective of the day will be to walk until the base camp while making some stops to enjoy the beautiful nature.
At a little more than 3,000 meters we find one of the endemic species of the moors, the Frailejón, little by little in the ascent are multiplying in the landscape and soon are mountains covered with this plant helping for the water cycle.
We will spend the second night in the tent at the base camp.
The sunrise is beautiful, we set up camp and head to the summit, now the road is more demanding, taking into account that we go with the luggage that brought the mule the effort is maximum, even so the landscape and the hope of reaching the summit encourages us, there is always a micro climate, clouds, water, unique vegetation, humidity and altitude.
Quickly between the winds we anchor the tents close together and wait for the night, the cold is bearable if you are well equipped.
4:00 Am - Wake-up see the sunrise!
If you come up here it is to see the greatest show. There are no words to describe what happens there, you just have to LIVE IT!
Now the challenge is to go all the way down the mountain and come back to the town of Urrao.
Once arrived, we will have a final lunch break and drive to Medellín in the late afternoon. You can expect to be back at your hotel/accommodation in the night.
